Academic Opportunities

AmeriCorps and VISTA Members interested in integrating their national service experience with university coursework to earn graduate level credits for non-degree and potentially transferable graduate credit can do so through the Nonprofit Administration Online Program.  This program consists of academic courses that can be taken individually or as a series in pursuit of a professional certificate in nonprofit administration.  Course examples include Strategic Planning, Board Management, Volunteer Management and Grantwriting.  Each 2-credit course costs $385 regardless of residency.

Full-time AmeriCorps and VISTA Members are also eligible to earn 4 credits through a nonprofit internship which provides students the opportunity to observe and examine a concrete, practical, hands-on experience at the service site.  With this academic opportunity, the student’s national service experience will shift and change as they grow to appreciate and contextualize their individual work and the work of the host organization within a larger framework. In addition, students may understand more clearly their own particular motivations for national service work and how these motivations ultimately influence the decisions and choices the students make in their daily routine over the course of the year. The 4-credit Internship course costs $435 regardless of residency.

NCCC Alum may be familiar with the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance and its partnership with the University of Montana.  UM’s Nonprofit Administration Online Program presents an ideal way for you to complete your Nonprofit Leadership Alliance Certificate requirements, simply and economically (but not without some academic work on your part!) Among other courses, we offer Grantwriting, Fundraising, Board Management, and Nonprofit Financial Management, all competency areas required by Nonprofit Leadership Alliance. These courses are ten-weeks long and offer two credits each. The cost per course is $385, including the credit-recording fee. Our courses are taught by high level professionals in the field, and consistently receive rave reviews from students.

To get started, complete your student profile with the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance online. NCCC students taking coursework at The University of Montana should indicate this as their affiliate university when creating the profile. Once you determine the coursework needed to fulfill any remaining competency areas, you are invited to register for classes.  On average, NCCC alum complete 2-3 online courses through UM's Nonprofit Administration Online program to fulfill the NLA competency requirements. Advising is available upon request!

Please note that NCCC students must also attend the Alliance Management/Leadership Institute (AMI) hosted each year in January by the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance.

AmeriCorps Education Awards are accepted for courses taken through the Nonprofit Administration Online Program! It is important to note however that students do have to pay for courses up front and get reimbursed via the Education Award.  For more information, please contact Laura Fellin.
